Forgotten Key seem to be handling the situation well, and even if the worst comes to pass, I hope their talented pool of artists, musicians and coders finds work soon. Failing that, it also contains a list of contact details for everyone at the studio that would be left looking for work. As Robin Helte's blog post says, there's still time for an investor to swoop in and throw a sack of money at these prototype games.
There is still a glimmer of hope for Forgotten Key. I'm hoping that things change, and Forgotten Key have a chance to further build on this interesting new foundation. Things glimpsed off in the distance are goals to be worked towards, with everything between you and your destination there to be collected, or an obstacle to be clambered over and swung past. While Aer was about the freedom to go anywhere, Down The Well is defined by where you can't. Set underground in claustrophobic tunnels wrathed in mist, ashes and flame. I'm looking forward to taking it for a spin myself after work tonight.ĭown The Well feels like a radical departure - almost a mirror image of Aer and Vind. The freedom to switch between human and bird forms, the freedom to fly and explore where you will, and gentle exploration and puzzles instead of combat and tension.
While based around a new culture of sky-island dwellers, Vind looks to have everything that made Aer so relaxing to play. Looking at the trailers, I can't help but feel a little angry that such obviously lovely things aren't enough to attract investors or sell enough to keep a small team afloat. Vind is a spiritual successor to Aer (though not a sequel), and Down The Well is an exploration adventure inspired by Scandinavian folklore. Kindly, they've released prototype demos of two games they were hoping to make. Unless something changes soon, the team will disband. Despite the game being well received, the obviously talented studio say here that they've struggled to find investors and keep the lights on. It's cute, innovative, and a visual treat, but can be as confusing as a Rubik's Cube in the dark.The past year has been rough for a lot of smaller studios, and the latest casualty may be Forgotten Key, developers of the rather lovely exploration adventure Aer: Memories Of Old.

"AER Memories of Old" is like that quirky friend who's full of charm but occasionally leaves you scratching your head. There's a serious lack of GPS in this floating island adventure. Getting around is like trying to fold a fitted sheet - it looks easy, but it's a head-scratcher. It sets a nice mood but won't be stuck in your head after you're done. The music's like elevator tunes – pleasant, but not exactly a chart-topper. Where am I? Where's the next mission? Why is everything floating? It's a puzzle, but not always the good kind.
As one of the last few shapeshifters, you are sent on a pilgrimage to the Land of Gods. This mystic world of endless skies, colorful islands and ancient ruins is in danger of falling into darkness. Navigating this game is like trying to find your car keys in a room full of mirrors. The gods of old are forgotten, lost in the events that shattered the world, leaving only fragments of islands in the sky. It's almost as fun as being an actual bird. Seriously, I'd frame these graphics!įlying like a majestic bird through ancient ruins? Sign me up! The innovative gameplay is like a breath of fresh air, giving you wings to explore the floating islands. 🤔🌥️ "Wait, which way to the next mission again?"Ĭutest visuals this side of the indie universe!
